2013-4-8 Out of Touch on the Eurodam

We heard first thing this morning that Margaret Thatcher has died.  It’s not in the daily paper which is a four page sheet of the previous day’s news. So, it must have happened overnight. We have CNN for the time being but it is breaking up so it won’t last long.

Yesterday, they showed “Life of Pi” in the main theater. Today, it’s the latest James Bond movie. They serve popcorn during the movie which is a nice touch.

CNN just cut out completely. Holland America always show yesterday’s movie on the TV so that is still available. Fox News is hanging on and so is ESPN 2. Those will be the last two to go. I just changed the time zone to Greenland.

I took two computer classes this morning. One was about Windows 8 but the class was hampered by the unavailability of the internet. Then, I took a class on Movie Maker. That went well because the internet is not critical to the class.

Bill does not yet have his sea legs. It’s 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013. He spent the whole morning in a deck chair listening to books on his MP3 player. I ate lunch and brought him a turkey sandwich and some fruit out on deck. He came back 30 minutes ago and is taking a nap. He’s just woozy, not actively ill. I feel fine.

We are still on Code Orange and being served from behind the counter. I have not heard of any Norovirus, yet.

While I was out and about this morning, I signed up for a cruise for next summer, 2014. We talked about it and Bill agreed that it would be a good thing to do. So, I put down a deposit of $500 each. We can change our minds up until next spring. The cabins for this trip just became available and are going fast. It will be 35 days from Boston to Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Ireland and then back the same way to Boston. So, we will be able to avoid the overseas flight which everyone hates.

The only drawback is that the cabin is outside and all the way forward. We have been in a cabin like that once before and it’s noisy. However, the cruise salesperson said there are only four full handicapped cabins on the Veendam and we were lucky to snag one.

Bill didn’t bring a jacket so he can’t eat in the main dining room. Ordinarily, dressy casual is okay but this is a formal night so he can’t eat there. We ordered room service off of tonight’s menu. We still plan go to the show at 8 p.m.

There are certain items that are always available at dinner: French onion soup, Caesar salad, grilled salmon, chicken breast, steak and baked potato, rice and vegetables. In addition, you can always order those items on room service between noon and 10 p.m. You can also get a bay shrimp cocktail, soup of the day, chef salad, penne primavera, triple decker sandwich, grilled tuna melt, omelet, cheese and crackers, American hamburger and Thai vegetarian wrap along with some desserts like ice cream, cake, cookies and pie.
