We had a wonderful time at the Butterfly Farm yesterday.
However, on entering the ship, Bill’s scooter once again quit and he couldn’t
resurrect it. He tried the new tools we bought yesterday but the screwdriver
was too thick to fit into the space. I called the office and asked for the loan
of a small Phillips head screwdriver from the handyman. It took about four
hours before we had the screwdriver delivered.
Bill was pretty unhappy. He analyzed everything he had done
wrong since we left on this trip and how it was his fault that the scooter was
unreliable. I admit I was worried. I have total faith in his ability to fix
things but there are some things that just can’t be fixed.
I asked for dinner to be delivered to our room so he could
continue working. We left the door to our cabin open and several of the staff
came by to see how he was doing and to offer advice. One stayed a long time and
told us about his wife and kids in Indonesia.
Bill asked for a paper clip and our room steward, Mull, got
one for him. Unbelievably, Bill was able to repair a fuse with a PAPER CLIP and
he put the scooter back together with DUCT TAPE! He explained why he used the
duct tape but I don’t really get it. What a guy!
